This week, I baked for Soldiers' Angels.  Soldiers’ Angels is a non-profit organization that helps United States soldiers and veterans.  I got an email from Erin Meadows who served in Afghanistan. She said “Although I was fortunate by having served a year in Afghanistan without being injured, so many are not as fortunate. I can only imagine how welcomed your baked goods are to the injured and their families! My next door neighbor was severely injured (he was about 19 or 20 years old at the time) and he was medevac’d to Germany where his mother (a French teacher at Walled Lake Central) happened to be in France for the summer with her French students – was able to divert and be with him in Germany. His parents are both Veterans and he is now medically retired from the Army. In fact, a few non-profits paid the expenses for him to travel to personally meet with the families of those who were mortally injured when their vehicle hit an IED in Afghanistan. He was able to bring those families closure and provide them details which the Army, at large, did not have and could not have relayed. I know, from their experience, support like this from non-profit organizations is truly invaluable.” I wanted to be able to help the military, so, I reached out to Soldiers’ Angels, and they told me that I could send some goods to a hospital in Germany.  I was excited to be able to help the people who defend our country every day, and I was excited to send my treats across the world again. I wanted to make sure that the cookies arrived in good shape, so I made cookies that would last in the mail but were still delicious. The last time I sent cookies in the mail, I made shortbread cookies and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies that traveled well, so I decided to so the same this time. I hope the cookies arrive in good condition, and that everyone enjoys them.
